What is Sorare – A Brief Overview
As already mentioned, Sorare is a Fantasy Football Manager where you can set up a team similar to Comunio. This team is evaluated based on the real performance of the individual players, for example, in the Bundesliga or Premier League. However, compared to Comunio, you have significantly more leagues to choose from.
Here’s a brief summary of what Sorare actually is, since this article is about strategies to make money. If you need more details, just check out our comprehensive Sorare Beginner’s Guide.
Sorare is an NFT game. Every player card you own is a unique NFT. It is unique and can only be assigned to you. You can use, win, and/or trade these player cards.
Sorare offers different competitions and leagues where you can, among other things, move up and down. There are free competitions and especially Pro competitions where you can participate with your NFTs to win attractive prizes.
There are 4 rarities of player cards that you can use in different competitions. They differ in the number of cards available per player and season.
Limited (max. 1,000 cards per player and season)
Rare (max. 100 cards per player and season)
Super Rare (max. 10 cards per player and season)
Unique (max. 1 card per player and season)
The rarer a card, the more valuable and harder it is to obtain. All competitions are available for these different rarities. However, you always need a complete team with cards of the respective rarity to participate in these competitions. The prizes and chances of winning increase with rarity. While limited card competitions usually have between 10,000 and 15,000 players, there are around 100 players competing for prize pools in the Unique category.
You play with a team of 5 players/cards. You need at least one goalkeeper, one defender, one midfielder, and one forward. The 5th card (Extra) can be a defender, midfielder, or forward. You can only field the players/cards that are eligible for the respective competition.
The game is played twice a week. Depending on which matches are coming up in real life, you can then participate in the corresponding competitions.
For those who don’t want to invest in a team right away, there is the Rivals League.
In the Rivals League, there are 10 playing classes where you can move up and down. The higher you go, the more attractive the prizes. Unlike the Pro Mode, you don’t need your own player cards. You select a match and can access all players of these teams. However, there is a predefined performance budget that you cannot exceed, so you can’t always combine the best players.
You then compete against another manager in the area for this match and can collect points for your ranking in the league (+3 for a win, -2 for a loss).
Those who finish at the top get a reward box containing various prizes. For example, you can win player cards in the form of NFTs, which you can then use in Pro Mode or sell directly on the transfer market for real money. There are also special items or special prizes (e.g., jerseys) in these boxes. What you get is decided by chance. The better the box, the more likely it is to contain a valuable prize.
So, you don’t necessarily have to invest money to earn money with Sorare. However, the path is naturally much longer this way.
Earning money through competitions and winning rewards with Sorare
Sorare offers a variety of competitions in different playing classes in which you can participate. Some of them are available to everyone, but some are only open to an exclusive selection of managers (see rarities above). The more exclusive the competition, the more exclusive the prizes.
There are usually three types of winnings in Sorare:
- Cash prizes – Here you can choose between FIAT (e.g., Euro, Dollar, or whichever currency is relevant to you) and ETH (Ethereum)
- Player cards in the form of NFTs – You can use player cards to strengthen your team or participate in other competitions. However, you can also sell them directly on the transfer market for cash by selling your cards there.
- Items – With various items, you can either strengthen your team or collect them and later exchange them for player cards.
What rewards are possible?
If you make it into the top 3 in a competition, you can win up to $10,000 per matchday. But for that, you obviously need a top team with the rarest cards, in which you first need to invest. However, in the lower classes, $1,000-2,000 per matchday is also possible if your team makes it into the top 3.
In the competitions where you can only win money, usually, the top 5-10% on the leaderboard receive a monetary reward. The rest either go empty-handed or have a chance to win one or more items.
In addition to pure cash prizes, there are also combinations of money and cards or just cards to win. It depends on where you place.
A Star category card in the above example could be a limited card (only max. 1,000 per player and season) of Kylian Mbappé, one of the most sought-after and expensive players on Sorare. But a Mohamed Salah is also possible, who is still consistently performing well for Liverpool and would surely be an asset to your team. However, the value of these players can vary significantly. It also depends, as mentioned, on the rarity with which you participate.
Limited cards of Mbappé have been sold on average between €250 and €300 in recent months. You then have to decide whether to keep the player to upgrade your team or sell him directly for cash to buy other player cards. Your trading strategy is crucial here.
For rarer cards, the values are naturally much higher. However, they are also harder to sell but entitle you to rise to elite circles and participate in competitions with significantly more chances of winning and prizes.
Winning a Mo Salah in Limited, however, looks a bit different. Due to the advanced age of the Liverpool forward, this card is only worth about €60.
As you can see, there is a bit of luck involved in which card you win. The better you place, the more valuable the cards become. Mbappé is, of course, an outlier, and you must first make it into the top 3. However, even for the other places, you receive player cards and possibly cash. You can use a rule of thumb that says the top 5-10% of a competition get into the prize ranks and win at least one additional card, even if it might only be worth one euro. But who knows, maybe it’s worth speculating, and the player’s value will rise over time.
Earning Money by Speculating on the Value Increase of Player Cards
In addition to the fun of playing the game and winning rewards, you can also make money with Sorare by buying player cards cheaply on the transfer market and selling them later at a higher price. There are different strategies that can work. Below, we will briefly explain some common strategies.
The value of a player card is determined by the player’s performance in the corresponding competition. It is usually not comparable to the player’s real-life value (e.g., the market value on Transfermarkt). A regular player in the second division can therefore be more valuable than a reserve player in the first division.
Performance is a major factor in determining value. However, for young talents, their potential is also factored in, which often makes them more expensive than comparable older players. Sorare also involves collecting, so certain cards may have an idealistic value that can drive up the price. Therefore, it’s not always clearly explainable why one player is much more expensive than another.
Buying Undervalued or Out-of-Form Players
Since performance is a crucial factor for the value of a player card, it may be worthwhile to buy out-of-form players or those who are not currently playing (due to injury, suspension, or league break) and speculate that these players will perform well in the future, increasing their value. This can lead to good profits but also losses.
A good example is Dayot Upamecano of Bayern Munich.
- At the start of the 23/24 season, his performance was very inconsistent, and his value for a limited card fluctuated between €20-50.
- In October, Upamecano was injured for several weeks, and his value dropped from €35 to just under €20.
- After his injury, he returned to the team as a regular player and key performer, achieving good results for his team. His value immediately rose to around €45 and later climbed to as much as €60, with some expectations for the second half of the season.
- However, these expectations were not met. Dayot Upamecano barely played under coach Thomas Tuchel and spent several games on the bench. Therefore, he could not score points for Sorare teams and fell back to a value of around €20.
This example shows how the values of player cards can develop due to performance, injury, and expectations. Of course, this can go in either direction. It remains speculative, as no one can predict how a player will perform in the future. However, with the right intuition, you can use these fluctuations to profit from price increases at the right moment. You just need to catch the right entry and exit points.
If you had bought a limited Dayot Upamecano card for €20 at the end of October during his injury, you could have sold it just two weeks later for €45, making a profit of €25. Of course, no one knows exactly when the right time to enter or exit is. Therefore, it is usually better to take profits quickly before other influences, such as transfers, injuries, or similar, correct the price downwards again.
Betting on Young Talents
Recognizing young talents is not always easy. Often, these are already known and heavily hyped. However, it is not always guaranteed that such talent will also break through and develop into a star player.
Many place their hopes on young talents, and therefore U23 players are generally more expensive on Sorare. However, if you find a gem that quickly develops and becomes a key player, you may achieve significant profits.
A good example is Maximilian Beier:
Beier was loaned to Hannover in the 2nd Bundesliga, where he did a good job. When he returned to Hoffenheim in the 1st Bundesliga, the coach trusted him, and he impressed with his performances. Maximilian Beier rose to become a key player, and his market value increased by over 500%. Afterwards, there were significant fluctuations, but with his nomination for Euro 2024 and his sale to Borussia Dortmund, his market value reached top levels in August 2024.
Buying young talents is often very difficult. Well-known talents are often traded at prices that already factor in an expected breakthrough. Additionally, a long-term investment is always dependent on the current market developments of the platform. There are macro trends, like in the stock market, and thus general value developments.
Still, it can be worthwhile to bet on young talents, buy them cheaply, and sell them later with a substantial profit. Your skills as a manager and scout are then in demand here.
Speculating on Transfers
As mentioned earlier, the value of a player card largely depends on the performance of the respective player in his competition. Therefore, another strategy is to speculate on transfers, for example, to a weaker club.
The goal is to find players who were previously too weak for their team or rarely played and then move to a team where they regularly play and perform well. Especially interesting are transfers from a top league to a weaker league.
A good example of this is Hirving Lozano:
In 2023, Hirving Lozano transferred from Napoli, where he no longer played a significant role, to PSV Eindhoven. Even before the official announcement, there was speculation about the move, which was clearly visible in the charts. On August 26, 2023, the transfer was officially announced, and the value shot up by eight times in just a few days. Subsequently, the values were very volatile until an injury significantly lowered the market value again.
The window to profit from a transfer is usually very short. Many players see an abrupt rise in value followed by a subsequent drop. This is mainly due to expectations and speculation about a significant performance increase at the new club.
Speculating on transfers is always tricky. As soon as a transfer is announced, prices shoot up. It then comes down to just a few hours. Only those who have the information before everyone else or who have speculated on a transfer early can make substantial profits with this strategy.
Earning Money by Trading Skillfully with Other Managers
Some Sorare managers specialize solely in generating profits through trading player cards. You not only have the option to buy player cards on the transfer market, but you can also trade directly with other managers.
Some managers are eager to get rid of their cards and are willing to sell them below value. In popular Sorare forums or on Discord, there are many posts where managers want to sell all or just a certain part of their cards. You can take advantage of this by making an offer for their player cards below the current market value. Generally, 10-15% is easily achievable.
Here is an example from my own history:
I found someone on Discord who wanted to get rid of all his cards, and I made him an offer for one player 15% below the current market value (about €69). He accepted, and I was able to sell this card relatively easily for €83, making a profit of 20%.
This method is somewhat tedious because offers are often rejected. You also need to be careful not to annoy other managers with offers, as you might get blocked.
However, some have specialized in buying cards or entire galleries and have become well-known among other managers for doing so. They are then the first point of contact when someone wants to quickly convert their player cards into cash and is willing to accept a slight loss.
One of the most well-known is PawelTrader:
PawelTrader makes hundreds of transactions per day and has automated the system. He buys entire bundles of cards 10-20% below market value and then offers them for sale at a higher price.
He has already built up a certain level of fame, so many managers send him offers to sell their cards. Building this reputation is, of course, a long road. Many try, but few succeed. To build such a model, you naturally need sufficient capital and cards on the platform.
But you could also look at who these big traders are trading with (e.g., via the SorareData platform) and identify managers who are willing to sell.
As shown in my personal example, it can also be done on a smaller scale. You just need a bit more patience and perseverance.
Earning Money by Referring New Members
You send your friends your personal referral link, and as soon as they register and buy at least 5 cards in an auction or instant purchase, you both get a 50% discount (maximum €50) on the next card. You can then sell this card profitably on the transfer market. Sometimes there are promotions where you receive a card for every referral.

Conclusion
As you can see, you can indeed earn money with Sorare. It all depends on your skills and how intensively you engage with the subject.
However, keep in mind that with Sorare, you can not only win money but also lose it. It remains speculative, much like the stock market, and only by thoroughly understanding the topics involved can you truly make money with Sorare.
