What is Sorare?

Sorare is a Fantasy Football Manager where you can participate in various competitions each week with cards of real football players and potentially win real money.

These cards are based on NFT technology, making them unique digital items. You can buy, trade, or sell these cards. The currency used to purchase these cards is ETH (Ether Ξ), a cryptocurrency based on the Ethereum blockchain, which you can exchange for real money.

What is a Fantasy Football Manager?

A Fantasy Football Manager combines fiction and reality. In a traditional football manager game, you manage your team in a virtual world, and the real-world performance of the actual team doesn’t matter.

A Fantasy Football Manager merges these worlds. You create a virtual club and compete against other managers. Your success depends on real-world events. You earn points for your player only if they perform well in real life.

What is an NFT?

An NFT (Non-Fungible Token) is a unique digital object (in this case, a football player trading card) stored on the blockchain.

The object is non-interchangeable and exists only once in its digital form. It’s similar to a collectible card; there is only one physical copy, which can be bought, traded, or sold. When you give it away, someone else becomes the owner of that card. This concept is transferred to NFTs in the digital world.

What is Ethereum?

Ethereum is a blockchain-based technology similar to Bitcoin. It enables the storage of information distributed across the internet, ensuring secure transactions. Essentially, a copy of the object (our collectible card) is stored on multiple computers, and any discrepancies among the copies would immediately reveal any forgery.

The currency behind Ethereum is Ether (ETH or Ξ). Ether is a cryptocurrency that can also be used for payments. You can buy Ether from various partners and store it in a wallet. On Sorare, you can top up your account with Ether via bank transfer or credit card, converting Euros to Ether in the process.

Is Sorare free?

You can register for free on Sorare and participate in the game without depositing money, using regular cards in the Casual League. You can join tournaments weekly and win new cards. However, regular cards cannot be traded and have no collectible value.

The game becomes more enjoyable with a set of rare cards. This grants you access to more competitions and allows you to collect, buy, trade, and potentially sell cards profitably.

In essence, the game is designed for those who are willing to invest money.

How do you play Sorare?

We have summarized how to play Sorare in a detailed Beginner’s Guide.

Can I make money with Sorare?

Yes, you can make money with Sorare. There are three main ways:

  1. Buying and Selling Cards: Purchase cards and sell them later for a profit, similar to stocks or other collectibles. This involves speculation on the card’s value, which could also decrease.
  2. Speculating on Ether’s Value: Invest in Ether and hope its value rises. Use it to build your team, and if the Ether price increases, you can sell your team and benefit from the rise in value. Your cards must retain their perceived value for this to work.
  3. Winning Prizes: Have a good team and win prizes. You could win cash in the form of Ether or additional cards, which you can sell to other managers. Success also depends on a bit of luck.

How does Sorare make money?

Sorare earns by creating and auctioning new NFT cards each season. The purchase price of these cards goes to Sorare.

How much money do I need to invest to build a team?

This is a difficult question to answer precisely. Building a competitive set of cards requires careful consideration. Factors such as the Ether cryptocurrency rate, the card’s rarity, and the current market value all affect the cost of a team. Your preferences also play a role; for example, being a fan of a specific team or focusing on a particular league.

To help with this, we provide recommendations for different areas based on current market values and player performance. This can guide you in deciding whether to invest in a team or stay in the Casual League.

Can I use cards from previous seasons?

Yes, cards from any season can be used, provided the player is still active and belongs to a licensed club on Sorare.

Note that the current club and age of the player in real life determine eligibility for various competitions.

What prizes can I win on Sorare?

Prizes vary by competition. You can win Ether or new trading cards. For more details, please refer to our guide.
